Building Community through Music

Offering spaces for all to come together and rejoice in the basic human love of music
Hazel Basil is a guitarist and vocalist based in Northampton, MA. Her music revolves around the strength she finds in community, introspection, and self-acceptance. After realizing she was transgender in 2022, Hazel felt an immense surge of love for her community and music, and has been working to bring friends and strangers alike together over a mutual love of music ever since. Hazel has performed at venues across New England, including the Iron Horse, the Academy of Music, and Club Passim. She is also known locally for her work hosting monthly queer open mics at the Parlor Room in Northampton, MA. Hazel hopes that the self-acceptance and introspection she encourages through her work leads audiences to find more space for complexity, joy, and compassion. In the face of oppression, our joy is more important than ever.

ABOUT HAZEL
Hazel's music ranges from calming fingerstyle guitar akin to Sufjan Stevens or Jose Gonzales, to complex alternative rock comparable to Covet or Plini. Her voice is soft and soothing- and her guitar will make anyone take a breath. When performing, she strives to create spaces for audiences to be comfortable exploring their own emotional experience of music. Music saved her life- and she hopes to share the strength and joy she finds in it.
